This is a question many people carry with real weight — whether from their upbringing, their church, or someone they love. Scripture speaks to it clearly and with care. Passages like 1 Timothy 2:12, 3:1–7, and Titus 1:5–9 ground the historic Christian conviction that eldership and pastoral leadership are reserved for men — the complementarian position, held by the church for centuries and well-supported in the text. The egalitarian view is held sincerely by some evangelicals, but it requires significant interpretive departures from the plain reading of these passages.
